Why Greek Philosophy Still Rocks + Socrates & Self-Examination

Why Greek Philosophy Still Rocks + Socrates & Self-Examination

Launch Event: Timeless Wisdom

Featuring Professor Christoforos Charalambakis (University of Athens)

Date/Time: Sunday, October 19, 2:00 PM (Central Time) • Livestream in English (captions provided)

Two sessions, one purpose: to show that ancient Greek philosophy is not museum-piece history but a practical, human “operating system” that still works—across professions, cultures, and faiths.

Session 1 — Introduction to the Series: “Why Ancient Greek Philosophy Still Rocks in the Modern World”
A fast, engaging tour of the Greek virtues—phronēsis (practical wisdom), dikaiosynē (justice), sōphrosynē (self-mastery), aretē (excellence)—and how they speak a shared ethical language with the world’s major religions. Expect clear ideas, light humor, and zero jargon.

Session 2 — “Socrates and the Art of Self-Examination”
Learn the simple, repeatable habits behind the examined life: asking better questions, testing assumptions, and turning disagreement into discovery. This is the Socratic method for busy people—parents, students, leaders, and anyone who wants sharper thinking and calmer judgment.

Why attend (in plain language):

  • Accessible & lively. No background required; the tone is light and humorous—ideal even if school never introduced you to the classics.

  • Family-friendly value. Take home first-class prompts for at-home conversations with your children about wisdom, courage, and character.

  • Common ground. See how Greek thought provides a shared framework of values that connects people across faiths and cultures.

  • Practical takeaways. Leave with 3–4 “Socratic moves” you can use immediately at work, in community life, and online.

Who is this for?
Everyone—students and parents, educators and professionals, community and faith leaders, and especially fellow Greeks who want a warm re-introduction to our inheritance.
