Ιστορικός Περίπατος στοn Κήπο των Ηρώων στο Μεσολόγγι

Μεσσολόγγι, 1826. Η τελευταία προσπάθεια των Οθωμανικών στρατευμάτων να κυριεύσουν την πόλη βρίσκεται σε εξέλιξη. Αυτή η επιχείρηση είναι κρίσιμη για την προσπάθειά τους να αποκαταστήσουν την κυριαρχία τους στη Στερεά Ελλάδα γνωστή ως Ρούμελη εκείνη την εποχή. Οι Έλληνες κράτησαν σχεδόν ένα χρόνο προτού εξαντληθούν τα τρόφιμα καθώς ο τουρκικός ναυτικός αποκλεισμός ήταν αδιαπέραστος. Οι πολιορκημένοι Έλληνες και  φιλέλληνες σύμμαχοί εξαντλημένοι αποφασίζουν να εξέλθουν από την περιτοιχισμέενη πόλη, προκειμένου να αποφύγουν την παράδοση, το θάνατο και την πώλησή τους ως σκλάβων. Όπως ήταν αναμενόμενο, αυτή η απόπειρα ήταν αυτοκτονική αλλά και ηρωΐκή για το μεγαλύτερο μέρος των αμάχων Ελλήνων. Η πτώση της πόλης δημιούργησε ένα εξαιρετικό κύμα συμπάθειας για την επανάσταση που οδηγεί σε μεταβολή της πολιτικής της Αγγλίας και της Γαλλίας στο Ελληνικό ζήτημα. Θα επισημάνουμε τα βασικά ιστορικά γεγονότα αυτής της μακρόχρονης τραγικής πολιορκίας του Μεσολογγίου, περιοδεύοντας στις περιοχές όπου ξεδιπλώθηκε όλο αυτό το δράμα που θα συνοδευθεί από αναγνώσεις στα Ελληνικά μόνον κειμένων ιστορικών και ποιητικών της εποχής 

Το πρόγραμμα θα είναι κυρίως στα ελληνικά και θα είναι ζωντανό στις 1:00 μ.μ. CST (ΗΠΑ) στις 25 Μαρτίου 2021 και θα αναμεταδοθεί στις 7:00 μ.μ. CST (ΗΠΑ) την ίδια μέρα, 8μ.μ. και 2 π.μ (26ης) ώρα Ελλάδος.

A Memorial Walk in the Bastions of Missolonghi

Missolonghi, 1826. The last attempt of the Ottoman troops to besiege the city is well underway. This operation is critical for their effort to re-establish their rule in Sterea Ellas known as Roumeli at that time. The Greeks held out for almost a year before they ran out of food as the Turkish naval blockade was impenetrable. Finally, the besieged Greeks and their philhellene allies utterly exhausted attempted a mass breakout in order to avoid surrendering and be killed or sold as slaves. As expected, this attempt to exit the city walls and escape enslavement, torture, and death, resulted in a disaster, with the larger part of the Greeks slain. This fall of the city generated a shock wave of sympathy to the Greek uprising against the Ottoman rule and brutality.  We will highlight the key historical events of this year-long tragic siege of Missolonghi by touring the actual locales where all this drama unfolded and reciting historical accounts of the time. 

The program will be mostly in Greek and will be live at 1:00 pm CST on March 25th, 2021, and will be rebroadcasted at 7:00 pm the same day. The primary event language will be Greek.
